Lockheed Martin Dirikan Lab Simulasi Virtual

VIVAnews - Lockheed Martin, salah satu pemain utama di industri pertahanan mendirikan fasilitas simulasi virtual di Colorado, Amerika Serikat. 

Diberi nama CHIL, laboratorium itu menggabungkan sejumlah teknologi virtual reality yang memungkinkan peneliti melakukan validasi, uji coba, dan mengetahui produk lebih lanjut sebelum produk itu dibuat secara fisik.

Diharapkan, Collaborative Human Immersive Laboratory ini akan dapat menguji coba berbagai proyek generasi masa depan seperti teknologi GPS III milik Angkatan Udara AS, dan Orion Crew Exploration Vehicle milik NASA.

Lab itu juga bisa diaplikasikan meneliti berbagai sistem ruang angkasa lain termasuk satelit, pesawat ruang angkasa penjelajah, kendaraan peluncur, serta sistem pertahanan misil.

CES 2011 Dibanjiri Komputer Tablet

VIVAnews - Perhelatan pameran elektronika terbesar di awal tahun ini, Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2011, akan dibanjiri oleh banyak produk komputer tablet. 

Pameran CES yang digelar pekan ini di Las Vegas AS, diperkirakan bakal menyuguhkan antara 80-100 komputer tablet dari berbagai vendor.

"Saya tidak akan kaget bila nanti kita menjumpai sekitar 100 komputer tablet di CES tahun ini," kata Shawn Dubravac, Chief Economist and Director of Research pada Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), kepada BBC.

Salah satu perusahaan yang akan meluncurkan komputer tablet buatannya adalah Asus. Vendor komputer asal Taiwan yang mempelopori produk netbook di tahun 2007 itu, kini hadir dengan berbagai jenis komputer tablet. 

Antara lain, Asus Eee Machine atau Asus Eee Pad Transformer. Eee Pad Transformer adalah komputer serupa laptop yang bisa dipisah menjadi dua, di mana layarnya bisa difungsikan sebagai komputer tablet. Perangkat ini menggunakan kombinasi sistem operasi Google Android dan Microsoft Windows.

Toshiba Siap Hadang PlayBook dan iPad 2

VIVAnews - Toshiba mengumumkan akan turut meramaikan pasar tablet PC akhir tahun 2011. Hadir dengan OS Android dan prosesor Tegra Nvidia, produsen elektronik dan semikonduktor asal Jepang itu siap menantang Blackberry PlayBook dan Apple iPad 2 yang juga dijadwalkan rilis tahun ini.

Di berita sebelumnya, perseteruan antara BlackBerry PlayBook dan Apple iPad 2 akan menjadi topik terpanas di jagat tablet PC tahun 2011. Tentu saja, akan lebih menarik jika Toshiba datang sebagai kompetitor serius bagi keduanya.

Komputer tablet Toshiba, yang belum diketahui namanya, akan menjadi salah satu dari serentetan produk yang akan tampil pada Selasa waktu setempat sebelum ajang Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2011) digelar pada 6-9 Januari 2011 di Las Vegas, AS.

"Tablet ini akan keluar pada musim semi tahun 2011. Untuk harga, belum kami tentukan," ucap Chris Casper, group manager di divisi produk digital Toshiba, yang dikutip VIVAnews dari PC World, Rabu 5 Januari 2011.

HP Kembali Tantang Apple dengan PalmPad

VIVAnews - HewlettPackard akan menghadirkan komputer tablet berbasis sistem operasi WebOS mereka yakni PalmPad di awal tahun depan.

Pernyataan itu diungkapkan oleh Todd Bradley, Head of Personal Systems Group, HP. Dibanding iPad, PalmPad memiliki ukuran yang lebih ringkas yakni 8,9 inci dengan bobot yang juga lebih ringan, yakni hanya 0,56 kilogram. Dari sisi perlengkapan, PalmPad juga dilengkapi konektivitas USB 3.0, HDMI, serta dual camera (1,3MP di depan dan 3MP di belakang).

“Mendongkrak penjualan produk tablet dan HP Slate merupakan salah satu alasan utama kami membeli Palm,” kata Bradley, pada konferensi pers kinerja keuangan perusahaan, seperti dikutip dari Reghardware, 22 Desember 2010.

Apple iPad menguasai hampir 90 persen komputer tablet di dunia.

VIVAnews - International Data Corporation (IDC) melaporkan bahwa komputer tablet secara global tumbuh 45,1 persen sepanjang kuartal ketiga tahun 2010. Pertumbuhan ini didorong permintaan Apple iPad yang kian tinggi.

Menurut data terbaru IDC, sepanjang kuartal ketiga, para vendor telah mengapalkan 4,8 juta unit komputer tablet secara global, dibandingkan 3,3 juta unit pada kuartal kedua. Dan, Apple iPad menguasai hampir 90 persen di antaranya.

Tingginya popularitas komputer tablet di kalangan konsumer secara global tak hanya didorong oleh adopsi media tablet, tetapi juga pembaca buku elektronik (e-reader).

"Evolusi pasar media tablet yang cepat berlanjut di kuartal akhir tahun lalu, di tambah dengan sejumlah produk baru, munculnya layanan tambahan, ekspansi jaringan pemasaran, dan kompetisi harga yang ketat," kata Susan Kevorkian, direktur riset Mobile Connected Devices di IDC, dikutip VIVAnews dari Cellular News, Rabu 19 Januari 2011.

PSP Baru Terkoneksi Jaringan 3G

VIVAnews - Tak lama lagi para pengguna PlayStation Portable (PSP) bisa terkoneksi dengan internet melalui jaringan yang lebih luas daripada sekadar jaringan WiFi.

Media lokal Jepang Nikkei melaporkan bahwa Sony akan segera membuat konsol handheld PSP anyar bertitel PSP2 yang bisa beroperasi di jaringan 3G. 

Melalui jaringan 3G yang bekerja sama dengan operator NTT Docomo, pengguna bisa mengunduh software game-game terbaru atau bermain bersama dengan pemain PSP dari berbagai negara lainnya.

Tak hanya itu, PSP ini juga akan membesut layarOrganic Electroluminescent Display (OELD) yang lebih besar dari layar saat ini yang hanya 4,3 inci, dan menyediakan fungsi panel sentuh.
